Looking to lose weight is a common goal. When looking to get healthier, it’s normal to think you should lose as much as you can as fast as you can. There are TV shows and celebrity diets touting this very idea. However, just as your mother might have told you not to believe everything you read, these diets might be doing more harm than good.

 

Safe & Long Term Weightloss

The CDC recommends aiming for one to two pounds per week of weight loss. At this rate, you are much more likely to not only keep the weight off but to continue to lose it until you reach your goal. When you look to set your weight loss goals, keep in mind what you weigh and how much you want to lose.

The healthier a person starts, the harder it can be to lose weight. For example, if you are 5’5 and looking to lose 10lbs at 200lbs, it’ll be a lot easier than losing 10lbs at 140lbs. Also, keep in mind that any changes you make should be for life as a new lifestyle.

 

Choosing Healthy Lifestyle Changes

According to the CDC:

Healthy weight loss isn’t just about a ‘diet’ or ‘program’. It’s about an ongoing lifestyle that includes long-term changes in daily eating and exercise habits.”

When you look to lose weight, you might think about a fad diet, for example, the Keto Diet. However, the best way to become healthier is merely to eat healthier and workout. There’s no need to fast the fat away or cut all carbs for 21 days. Taking it slow and steady while focusing on getting a well-balanced diet will result in long-term success.

 

Think About Health Not Weight

Ending today, I’d like to propose the idea of healthy living overweight. There are many times when your doctor says you should lose weight. You should always listen to your doctor. However, if you are losing weight for your own goals, try thinking about becoming healthier. As long as you are continuing to eat healthy foods in decent proportions while working out, you will get healthier. However, you might gain weight. Why? Muscle is denser than fat! Though you might start by losing lots of weight, you might begin to gain it back as you start to build muscle!
