The 4 to 6 Week Protocol a Retired Doctor Ran His Patients Through for Twenty Years
Bloating that won't quit. Bowel movements that won't settle. The brain fog and afternoon fatigue you can't explain. The Bowel Cleanser Bundle is the three-product, four-to-six week protocol Stephen Smith, M.D. developed in clinical practice to address the microbial layer underneath all of it.
Your Gut Is Not Just a Digestive Tube
Your gut is home to roughly 38 trillion microorganisms. That is more microbial cells than human cells in your body. When that ecosystem gets disrupted, by antibiotics, processed food, stress, the wrong medications at the wrong time, the balance shifts. Yeast organisms quietly expand. Bacterial populations that should stay in the colon start showing up where they don't belong. Biofilms form, and biofilms are the protective barrier that makes those organisms very hard to clear with a single-ingredient cleanse.
Most over-the-counter approaches address the symptom. The protocol below addresses the cause. Clear what doesn't belong. Then, in a separate phase, re-seed what does. The Bowel Cleanser Bundle is the first phase.
The Three-Product Gut Cleanse Protocol, Explained
Before the breakdown below, watch the short overview of how Biocidin LSF, Oil of Oregano, and Candisol work together across the four to six week sequence.
Three Products. Three Mechanisms. One Coordinated Protocol.
Each product in this bundle does something the other two cannot. Removing any one of them leaves a layer untouched.
Biocidin LSF
A liquid synergy formula of 18 botanicals and essential oils. Stephen Smith, M.D. considers it the most clinically sophisticated botanical blend available. Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, and, critically, it disrupts biofilms. Biofilms are the protective layer that makes microbial overgrowth so hard to clear with single-ingredient products. Without disrupting that layer first, the rest of a cleanse is working against a wall.
The protocol starts at one drop, twice a day, and ramps up gradually, increasing every three days. The slow ramp is intentional. Move too fast and you trigger what is called a Herxheimer response, organisms dying off and releasing toxins faster than the body can clear them. Fatigue, brain fog, loose stools. Slow ramp avoids that.
Oil of Oregano
Enteric-coated, minimum 70 percent carvacrol. Take at least once a day, up to three times a day, with meals.
The carvacrol and thymol in oregano oil work through a completely different mechanism than the botanicals in Biocidin. That matters. Hitting the same organisms with two different mechanisms is harder for them to evade than running either one alone at a higher dose. The enteric coating exists for a single reason: oregano oil broken down by stomach acid never reaches the lower GI where most of the work happens. The coating gets it there.
Candisol
A plant enzyme formula, cellulase and hemicellulase. Stephen Smith, M.D. calls it the most elegant component of the protocol, because of what it does and does not do.
It does not kill yeast directly. It dissolves the cell wall of yeast organisms enzymatically, breaking through the chitin matrix that protects them. The result is that the organism comes apart without releasing the same wave of toxins that aggressive antifungal protocols produce. Minimal die-off response. Much gentler experience for the patient. This is the piece that makes the four-to-six week protocol manageable for first-time cleansers and patients who are sensitive to supplements.
Three products. One coordinated four-to-six week protocol. Stephen Smith, M.D. ran his patients through this exact sequence for over twenty years.
Why three mechanisms instead of one stronger product
Most gut protocols pick one angle and stop there. A botanical. A single antifungal. A "cleanse" pill that does a little of everything and not much of any of it. In 20+ years running this protocol with patients in his functional medicine practice, Stephen Smith, M.D. saw the same gap every time. The organisms doing the most damage in a disrupted gut are not floating free. They live inside biofilms, protective coatings the microbial community builds to shield itself from anything you throw at it. A single product, no matter how strong, will not get through that.
That is why this bundle is sequenced as three different mechanisms attacking the same problem from three different angles.
Biocidin LSF is the entry point. It is a liquid synergy formula of 18 botanicals and essential oils, and its primary role here is biofilm disruption. In Stephen Smith, M.D.'s own words, "that is the key that lets the rest of the protocol work." Once the biofilm is compromised, the organisms inside are exposed.
Oil of Oregano is the second antimicrobial layer. Enteric-coated, high-carvacrol at 70 percent or above, delivered past the stomach. Its compounds work through completely different botanical pathways than Biocidin, so you are addressing the same organisms from a second direction.
Candisol finishes the picture. Instead of botanical pressure, it uses cellulase and hemicellulase enzymes to break down fungal cell wall structure directly. No toxin release the way a botanical antifungal produces. A gentler, structural approach.
Three mechanisms, one sequence, designed to do together what no single product does alone.
The Four-to-Six Week Sequence
The actual sequence Stephen Smith, M.D. used in clinical practice. Dosing, drainage support, hydration, and the one mistake that derails most cleanses.
Preparation phase
- Candisol at least one time a day, up to three times a day. The more you need it, take more.
- Biocidin LSF at one drop, twice a day, increasing by one drop every three days
- Magnesium at night for drainage support
- 80 to 100 ounces of water a day
- Pull sugar, processed carbohydrates, and alcohol if you can
Active phase
- Biocidin LSF at five drops, three times a day, 30 minutes before meals
- Oil of Oregano with meals. Start with one a day, build up to three a day if your body tolerates it well.
- Candisol continued. At least one a day, up to three a day. The more you need it, take more.
- Hydration continues. Sleep matters.
- Add binders (activated charcoal) as needed for die-off support
Four to six weeks. Dose ramp built in. Drainage support spelled out. The honest sequence, not a shortcut.
What the Four to Six Weeks Actually Feel Like
Adjustment: Stop for a day, drink lots of water, restart at a lower dose.
The protocol works with the body. It doesn't override it. Hydration and sleep matter. So does patience.
Is the Bowel Cleanser Bundle Right for You Right Now?
Honest filtering. Sales pages convert better when they tell some buyers to wait.
This protocol is built for:
- Patients whose digestion has slowed since winter and never quite recovered
- Patients who notice bloating or sluggishness within an hour or two of eating
- Patients coming off a course of antibiotics in the last six to twelve months
- Patients noticing carb or sugar cravings that feel stronger than they should
- Patients who have done a single-product cleanse before and felt the result didn't hold
- Patients dealing with brain fog and energy dips that track with what they ate, even when the meal looked clean
Wait, or talk to your prescribing physician first, if you are:
- Pregnant or nursing
- On prescription medications, particularly blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or anything regulating blood sugar or blood pressure
- Currently in an acute flare or recovering from recent hospitalization
- Highly sensitive to supplements in general (the protocol can still be appropriate, simply start at a lower dose and ramp more slowly)
- Under 18
- Managing a serious chronic illness
None of those rule you out forever. The four-to-six week duration is short enough that timing it between medication changes is usually straightforward, but that is a conversation to have with the physician who prescribed the medication. Not with us.
"I had done two single-product cleanses before and felt nothing change. Finished the full six weeks of this protocol and my afternoon energy is finally back. The slow ramp on the Biocidin really matters."
"After a long course of antibiotics last fall, my digestion never quite settled. Stephen Smith's protocol gave me the structure I needed. Week one was rough for a few days, then it smoothed out exactly like the page describes."
"What I appreciated most was the protocol being explicit about hydration and the no-probiotic rule during the cleanse. I had been making that mistake for years. Will be doing the flora support bundle next."
429 patients have already finished this protocol. The next one in is you.

A note from Stephen Smith, M.D. on the guarantee.
When I ran patients through this protocol in my practice, I told them the same thing every time. Give it the full course. Four to six weeks. Drink the water. Support drainage. Don't skip steps.
So here's what we'll do. Take ninety days with the Bowel Cleanser Bundle. Run the protocol the way it's designed. If you finish it and don't feel the Bundle was worth your time, send us a note. We'll refund what you paid. No empty bottles required. No long form to fill out.
I would rather you complete the protocol and tell us it wasn't for you than rush through it and never know. Take the time. We'll be here either way.
Stephen Smith, M.D.
Ninety days to run it. The protocol takes four to six weeks. The rest of the window is yours.
Questions Patients Ask Before Starting
Seven of the most common questions Stephen Smith, M.D. fields from new patients before they start the protocol.
You can, and many patients have, and that is usually the conversation that brings them back asking why their last cleanse didn't hold. Biocidin is excellent at what it does, but the bacterial layer, the fungal layer, and the yeast layer each respond to different tools. Biocidin reaches the bacterial and fungal side and disrupts biofilm. Oil of Oregano hits the same layer from a different angle, which makes the work harder for organisms to evade. Candisol works specifically on the yeast cell wall, enzymatically, which the other two do not. Pulling any one of the three out leaves a layer untouched. That is usually where the result slips.
On purpose. The cleanse phase is for clearing. Adding probiotics during clearing is planting a garden that hasn't been weeded. The bacteria in the probiotic are competing with whatever is still present, and the result is a fraction of the colonization you would have gotten by waiting. The right time for the probiotic is after the four-to-six week protocol is complete, in the flora restoration phase. Doing it in that order is what makes the result hold.
Most store-bought cleanses are either a single antimicrobial in a pill, or a laxative-driven flush with a botanical or two layered on top. Neither one addresses biofilm. Neither one touches the yeast cell wall enzymatically. Neither one is sequenced across four to six weeks with the dosing logic to avoid a hard die-off response. The Bowel Cleanser Bundle is what came out of two decades of running patients through every available option and refining what actually held.
You don't. The protocol is designed to work broadly across the most common gut imbalance patterns, which is why it was put together in this combination in the first place. That said, if you want to know exactly what you are dealing with before you start, a GI-MAP through Diagnostic Solutions is the gold standard. It identifies specific organisms quantitatively rather than just present-or-absent. Direct-to-consumer options like Viome or Everlywell give you a baseline at a lower price point. Testing before and retesting at week sixteen produces a before-and-after picture that, in my clinical experience, is one of the most motivating things a patient can see.
The botanical and enzyme components in this bundle are generally well tolerated, but supplements and prescriptions share the same liver. If you are on prescription medication, particularly blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or anything for blood sugar or blood pressure, the right move is to bring the bundle to your prescribing physician or pharmacist before you start, the same way you would with any new supplement. The four-to-six week duration is also short enough that timing it between medication changes is usually straightforward.
This bundle was put together with first-time patients in mind. Candisol in particular was selected because it works gradually. It does not release a wave of dying organisms into your bloodstream the way harsher protocols sometimes do. Most patients start with a partial dose of each component for the first three to five days, settle into the full protocol from there, and find the experience uneventful in the best sense of the word. If you have a history of being unusually sensitive to supplements, simply start lower and move slowly. There is no clinical advantage to rushing.
The Bowel Cleanser Bundle is the first phase, weeks one through six. The Total Bowel Care program is the full sequence, twelve weeks total, that adds the flora restoration phase and the binder support. Most patients begin with the cleanse, complete the four-to-six weeks, and then decide whether to continue with restoration. Some are ready for the complete program from the start. Either path is valid. The cleanse on its own is a complete protocol for what it was designed to do.
Some patients run the complete 12-week clinical sequence
All five products. The cleanse phase, the restoration phase, and the binder support, sequenced the way Stephen Smith, M.D. ran patients through the program in his functional medicine practice. If that's you, see Bundle 3: Total Bowel Care. Most patients start with the Cleanser, finish it, and decide from there. That's the path Stephen Smith, M.D. recommends for first-time patients.

These are not random supplements thrown together. Every product in this bundle was chosen based on clinical evidence and patient outcomes from a twenty-year practice. There is a reason and a sequence behind all of it. Take care of your gut. Most of what people are trying to fix downstream tends to follow from that.
