Artificial Sweeteners and Sugars Correlated with Poor Cardiovascular Health

Artificial Sweeteners and Sugars Correlated with Poor Cardiovascular Health

According to a study published in October 2022, “increasing consumption of sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened beverages may be correlated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular/vascular complications and mortality, albeit without causality of cardiovascular/vascular morbidity.” While there are limitations to the study, and more research to be conducted, the correlation between sugars/artificial sweeteners with poor cardiovascular health is certainly intriguing and worth investigating. This is especially the case with the rising popularity of artificial sweeteners as a “healthier” alternative to sugar.

A recent study by the Cleveland Clinic found that “higher blood erythritol levels were at elevated risk of experiencing a major adverse cardiac event such as heart attack, stroke or death.” Erythritol is a popular sweetener used typically to combat the high carbohydrate count of plain old sugar. The Cleveland Clinic states, “after ingestion, erythritol is poorly metabolized by the body. Instead, it goes into the bloodstream and leaves the body mainly through urine. The human body creates low amounts of erythritol naturally, so any additional consumption can accumulate,” which leaves consumers at a higher risk of blood clotting, heart attack, and cardiovascular disease. However, should cutting down on your carbohydrates (which in high amounts can be correlated with heart disease) cause you to suffer the same issues you were trying to avoid in the first place?

We think not.

How We Can Help

Cutting down your carbohydrate intake is definitely helpful for combatting cardiovascular disease. However, food access, dietary restrictions, and the occasional desire for donuts can make that difficult. Fear not. This is where supplementation comes in. Using supplements in your diet can be paramount to comfortably lowering your body’s carb intake while still fulfilling your needs and (occasionally) enjoying the treats you love.

Protocols For Health, Carb Blocker 60 Capsules

This handy dandy supplement contains “berberine [which] is a plant alkaloid derived from several different plant species that have been used in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine for a variety of therapeutic applications, including supporting healthy blood glucose metabolism and healthy insulin response.” Berberine also inhibits the glucose-forming process, meaning less is produced when carbohydrates are digested. Excess sugar production is detrimental to the health of your blood and heart, which makes this supplement so helpful.
